Why have a skate park?

We at Rampmental feel that the most difficult age groups to please are the 10-17 year olds. How often have we heard the phrases “there’s nothing to do around here” and “we don’t have anywhere to go”.

Less than 20% of school age children are involved in physical activity and this may be prohibited by cost for socially deprived communities and young people. It is important for local authorities and community groups to embrace the need to address the needs of young people (specifically teenagers) as highlighted by government research and policy.

Vigorous outdoor exercise is known to have a positive effect on the mental health of young people, reducing stress due to the high demands of education and encouraging comradeship and friendship among peer groups, combining fun with challenge.

Skate Parks are an ideal facility that ticks all the right boxes for the issues highlighted above.
In our many years as Skate Park providers we never fail to be impressed at how the various age groups interact with each other, what other sport do you know where an adult and child can compete together and socialise on an equal level.

In our experience they have even made a positive impact on crime rates. Welshpool Police reported an 80% reduction in youth related crime over the summer holidays (2003) after Rampmental Ltd had installed a Skate Park facility at the local youth centre which incidentally is still in great condition and well used to this day.

Bullying is virtually non-existent and indeed not tolerated by the user groups.
Younger beginners are usually taught the correct etiquette by their peers and encouraged and applauded when successfully completing or attempting a new trick (even if it doesn’t come off quite as planned).
