RoSPA Post Installation Inspections (PII)
Post Installation Inspection is a valuable tool which may be utilised by local authorities to ensure that the supply and installation company provides a skate park which conforms to all the latest standards and guidelines. The skate park consumer may then enjoy its use in relative safety.
Many local authorities purchase skate parks without a PII only to discover during regular annual inspections that they require (in worse case scenario) removal or complete redesign and/or rectification. In addition to wasting the hard earned funding used on the original project will add to the strain on maintenance budgets.
Over the past 8 years Rampmental Ltd. have been recruited many times to rectify skate park facilities which have been incorrectly installed or poorly manufactured by less discerning companies who claim to work to current standards but do not offer PII to substantiate their work.
No monies should be paid until a successful PII is received. Potential suppliers should provide a minimum of three PII’s for skate parks they have previously installed as an indication of good practice. We recommend that tenders for skate park work should include this specification.
Rampmental Ltd. are proud to have a 100% pass rate by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) on all facilities installed to date We insist that every park has a PII upon completion.

Management of Litigation
You are only liable for damages, under UK law, if you are negligent. If you take all recommended steps it is unlikely that you will be deemed negligent and therefore if litigation occurs, you are less likely to have damages awarded against you. You are not exactly fireproof but you are certainly strongly flame resistant.
There is a new British and European Standard (BS EN 14974:2006) that covers skateboarding facilities.
Reducing Accidents
RoSPA recommends the following action:
- ensure that all equipment is built and installed to BS EN 14974:2006
- obtain a post installation inspection from a suitably qualified body such as RoSPA to ensure safety standards are met. (Your insurance company may insist on this)
- inspect your site regularly. Even in a small parish this must be a minimum of once a week
